Fondly known as MMM (Triple M) in his close circle, Muruganandam, Chairman of Excel Group of Companies, has served Rotary as one of the Youngest Rotary Governor and has motivated millions of people through various Awareness Projects, Leadership Seminars, Workshops and Campaigns.
Education
He had a humble beginning as a student of a Panchayat Union Government School from BHEL, Trichy. With hard work and perseverance, he rose to be a successful first-generation entrepreneur.
He is an engineering graduate and holds a Masters in Business Administration, Science, Marketing Management, Foreign Trade and Export Management. Educated from a Panchayat School to the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology (Pilani), he serves as an example of how hard work can lead to great heights.
Professional
He is an EXIM Consultant and Chartered Engineer with 3 decades of experience in Supply Chain Management, Shipping & Logistics. Primarily started as Excel Maritime and Logistics in the year 2006, now crowned as Excel Group of Companies is headquartered in Chennai, currently operates in 18 cities across India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Excel Maritime and Logistics an ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 Certified company, handles more than 2 lakh tons of cargo in addition to special cargos every year and is one of the largest Logistics companies in India. The company won The Best Navigator Award, by Times Group in 2012, Top 10 Most Promising companies in Logistics by Silicon Magazine, Best CSR award by the Economic Times and Project Cargo Mover of the year (India & International) at the South East CEO Conclave & Awards 2023.
Rotary International
MMM began his Rotary journey as a Rotaractor at the age of 16. He won the Outstanding DRR of the World, became the Charter President of the Rotary Club of BHEL City Tiruchirappalli in 2008-09, and was elected as one of the youngest governors of RI District 3000 in 2016-17.
MMM is known as the Guinness Governor for accomplishing 8 Guinness World Records commemorating TRF’s centennial year. By chartering 99 Rotaracts, 250 Interacts and 100 RCCs, MMM topped in Youth Service at the world level and bagged zonal awards for Membership Development, Public Image and contribution to the Rotary Foundation.
He became a Major Donor even before becoming a Rotarian. He has contributed 4,00,000 plus US dollars to The Rotary Foundation. MMM became the first Arch Klumph Society member of RI District 3000. He founded the YES Team & Excel Foundation Endowments and his TRF contributions, many noteworthy projects were executed as part of a Global Grants project and Term Gifts towards Polio eradication, providing Incinerators and RO plants to all the clubs of RI District 3000, Low-Cost Dialysis Unit, ICU infrastructure, Upgrading a neonatal ICU ward and Milk Bank Equipment.
MMM has held significant positions such as Assistant Rotary Public Image Coordinator Zone 5 (2020-21), Zone 5 Rotary Public Image Coordinator (2023-24), Advisor for 2022 Hyderabad RI Presidential Conference and RI President’s Representative at the 3204 Calicut Conference. He chaired the 2021 Rotary Institute MAHABS, multi-district Rotary leadership Conclave 2023 and South Asian Reception at the 2023 RI Convention, in Melbourne.
PDG MMM has been elected to serve as the Rotary International Director 2025-27.
Rotary Awards
MMM received the Citation for Meritorious Service from the Rotary Foundation and Rotary International’s Vocational Leadership Award. He received RI District 3000’s Distinguished Service Award from the Former Indian Vice-President Shri Venkaiah Naidu. He is a recipient of Rotary International’s highest honour Service Above Self Award.
Social
MMM believes that 'Taking responsibility alone can lift ourselves' hence he advocates that social responsibility is as important as an individual's personal and professional life. His commitment towards social and economic upliftment is highly commendable inspiring thousands of Rotarians, students and youngsters. Over the last 30 + years, he has trained and motivated over a million students on a highly engaging powerful thought ... "Dare to Change! Dare to Shape!".
He founded The Excel Foundation, CSR initiative of Excel Group of Companies does noteworthy services to the less fortunate and needy. The foundation addresses issues like hunger, health, education and well-being of children, youth and senior citizens. It has adopted a spastic children's home to help special children with occupational therapies and treatment. It has launched coaching centres that support educational scholarships to physically challenged, accident survivors and students from weak economic backgrounds.
MMM serves as the governing council member of Trichy National College, governing board member of the Trichy Spastic Children’s Society, President of Life Zone of BHEL Trichy, Patron of Puducherry Taekwondo Sports Association.
